PEARL JEWELRY CARE
Pearls are considered delicate and soft organic gemstones. Therefore, they need special care and consideration to make sure their luster and nacre don’t get damaged.
One of the most important rules to follow when taking care of your pearls is to put them on last and take them off first. This way you leave time for your perfume and make-up to dry so it is not going to harm the surface of your pearls. By taking them off first you ensure that the pearls don’t get scratched or caught on your other accessories.
Another important rule is to get your pearl bracelets and necklaces restrung every one or two years. One of the reasons for this is that normal wear will stretch the thread with time. This causes the nodes to shrink and potentially be pulled into the drill hole of the pearls. If it happens, the knots will not separate the pearls anymore and these will be rubbed against each other causing damage on their surface.
CLEANING
Gently wipe the pearls with a soft, clean cloth dampened with water.
Never use ammonia or other harsh detergent solutions and avoid jewelry cleaners and ultrasonic cleaning devices!
If your pearls get spilled or dripped, soak them in lukewarm water with natural soap (not detergent). Rinse it well and allow it to dry wrapped in a cotton cloth.
STORING
Store your pearls protected from other jewelry and any other objects that could scratch them in any way.
Do not leave pearls around direct sources of heat, such as a fireplace, or on top of the television.
THINGS TO AVOID
Remember to remove your pearls whenever you apply hairspray or perfume and wait a couple of minutes before putting the pearls back again. These chemicals can damage the surface of your pearls.
Remove your pearl jewelry before swimming in chlorinated pools.
