Pearls are organic gems produced by a mollusk. They were one of the first gem types which mankind treasured.
Pearls are formed by layers of calcium carbonate platelets and conchiolin, which is the organic “glue” in nacre.

Some chemicals may harm pearls
Apply makeup, perfume and hair products before putting on pearl jewelry
Put your pearls on last and take them off first
Pearls can be scratched easily when metal or gemstones rub against them. Store them separately from other jewelry
Depending on how often they are worn, pearl necklaces and bracelets will require occasionally restringing
Before storing pearls, gently wipe them with a soft, clean cloth dampened with water
Avoid jewelry cleaners or ultrasonic cleaning devices
Avoid using ammonia or harsh detergent solutions
Avoid swimming with pearls in chlorinated pools
