TAHITIAN PEARLS
Tahitian pearls first hit the pearl market in the mid-seventies with an unusual look that made them very different from traditional cultured pearls. They have a rainbow of exotic colors that differentiates them from all other pearl types. It grows in the Black lipped oyster that produces black pigments that give the pearls colors of grey, black, aubergine, peacock green and greenish blue. They can also take lighter colors though, like white and yellow with grey overtones. Tahitian pearls are saltwater pearls primarily cultivated around the islands of French Polynesia. Typical size ranges between 8 and 14 mm, sometimes they can grow to 21 mm.
